Crawfish Beignets
Kris and I completely forgot to take a camera with us to New Orleans, which was a pity, but we were only there for less than 24 hours, so we will have to go back, of course. And with flights on Southwest so reasonable, it shouldn't be a problem!
I was, of course, interested in seeing what was different than before the flood. Keeping in mind that I never really left the "tourism areas" on either visit, and this time only visited the French Quarter, I have to say the biggest difference I noticed was the number of empty or closed up shoppes. Also, the hours seemed shorter in many restaurants and so forth. Basically, tourism is down, but not completely out.
We arrived around lunchtime, so I dragged Kris right to Jackson Square for a lunch at Cafe Pontalba. We had to wait in line, for a restaurant with a great location, but famously pissy service, so there are still *some* tourists out there. I really enjoyed my special, and Kris had a nice crawfish po-boy.
Later we got beignets at Cafe duMonde, then wandered back to our hotel to relax. On the way out in the evening, Kris spotted a sign for "Crawfish Beignets" as appetizer at the Louisiana Bistro, and even though it was a slow night in there, after a few trips around the blocks, we decided it since we'd had crawfish and we'd had beignets, heck! we should have them together. The reviews are right: the food was AMAZING, service was fantastic....I'll be back! (I did mention I'd be blogging about the place...no idea it was as well rated as it is!)
I hope we can return soon. It looks like our next trip will be to the Pac. NW though!
