Working the Mantra
With my recent work angst I'm really getting back into my workouts! Mantra: "Stressed out? Don't pig out--work out!"
I ended up driving out to the gym at lunchtime yesterday and running on the treadmill 20 minutes. The irony is, it was nice enough outside at noon that I could have just run locally downtown. But I learned something: it takes roughly 20 minutes from my desk to dressed and on the treadmill, and about the same to change and get back. So, if I wanted to do some other 20 minute workout, I could easily fit that in at lunchtime.
Last night I went to one of the classes my gym offers, a yoga class. It was sort of beginner, but a very different school of yoga than I am used to. Normally, I can "find" the work in even the most gentle of beginner classes. This was more like a stretching class...not much for the spaghetti boned person to work on.
This morning I got my run on again, doing 20 on the treadmill, 18 of it solid jogging. (I am still working the intervals from C25K.) I'm eager to try running pavement again here soon. I know it's not the same, but I do think my tolerance is higher than last fall when I stopped going outside for the cold.
I hope to get on a pair of skis tonight. In 2005, at the start of that ski season, I busted up my leg (MCL bruising and minor tear). It healed enough that I was able to get up on skis one more time before the fake snow stopped falling, and I discovered pretty quickly that the culprit had been a poorly fitting boot that allowed my ankle to waggle. So the husnot got me a season pass to the hill this year, but I refused to go out without properly fitted boots. I finally got them this past weekend. The season is over Friday. HA! So, I'll be hopefully making my first "real" turns tonight. I have the fear, but I will conquer it!
