It's been just over a month since I joined a gym, and I must admit, I'm seeing results. Not at the scale mind you, but in the mirror. I can't show the difference in a photo...video might have captured it, but unfortunately, my jigglies were camera shy.

My weight remains stable, hovering at just around 170. Over the holiday break it went up a bit more due to indulgence, but it's leveled off again. I spent some time over the break with a personal trainer and have been working about 3 weeks now with the three resistance workouts he developed for me. I was putting on earrings this morning and noticed my shoulders, biceps and triceps are all a different shape. Smoother and tighter. So that's good.

What isn't so good is the fact that between yoga and the gym, I had started to feel like fitness was taking over my life. As an experiment, I'm going to the gym mornings this week for my resistance routine, which takes more time than a simple jog. I did this this morning, and I must say it's a refreshing way to start the day and at 7am...there's no one there! No waiting, no socializing. I zipped through my routine and was home in less than an hour...and that's with a 20-minute cardio wrapper. So I'm going again Thursday morning, and then if I feel like a light jog on one of my "off" days (Mon, Fri, Sun) I'll go before or after work. If this routine works out I'll stick with it.

The first weekend of the Anusara Yoga immersion I am taking was this past weekend. There was a good amount of practice, but I rally enjoyed all the lecture portion and getting a better understanding of the background. I know better why this form of Yoga made more sense to me than others do...the Tantric philosophy fits right in with my personal belief system. I am excited and can't wait until the next adventure on Feb 4.

I would be nice to see some changes at the scale, and I have to be honest with myself: I have been using my elevated activity as an excuse to eat more. I'm not going over my points necessarily, but I'm not spending the extras in the wisest ways. I'm wondering if the holidays didn't reset my sweet tooth...I've been craving sugary foods in a way I haven't in ages. I try to remind myself to have protein instead, but it can be difficult.

I'm going to try to get some new photos up by February. Maybe I'll achieve a handstand away from the wall long enough to get Kris to capture it on film?
