Ow. Ow. Ow.
I woke up yesterday with a minor crick in my back, just between the shoulder blades. You know the one. It's hardly noticeable until you turn your head suddenly to see if you can get over into the next lane of traffic at rush hour and then the pain assails you like bad sitcoms in September. Usually these things go on their merry way by lunchtime, or with a few stretches and "bear hugs" from back cracking buddies, at the very least they have subsided in their insistence by the next day.
I, however, am a glutton for punishment. I went to my yoga class and asked for shoulder work, in hopes of opening up the area and releasing some of the blocked energy. And it helped quite a bit. Until I left the studio and the cool night air hit my skin, and the daggers started to twist. I went home and lounged on a heating pad and generally stretched and twisted and tried...oh how I tried...to get the pinch to clear. Finally, exhausted, I went to bed (propped up with a heating pad).
At four in the morning the crick came back with teeth on. Oh. My. Gods. I winced my way out of bed and down the stairs. Every step was agony. I got two Aleve tablets and lay on the floor to twist and stretch. "Clearly, I'm not going running in two hours," I thought, dozing on the living room floor.
I did finally make it back to bed, slap the alarm a couple of times, and get to snoozing. I slept in, and spent a lot of time doing passive stretching before getting up. A hot shower made me moderately mobile, and I got in to work.
It's been coming and going most of the day. Right now, it's a very mild stiffness. I hope it simply continues to melt away, as we are meant to have nice cool weather this evening and I may be able to make up my missed intervals from this morning. Which I would like very much.
