Adventures in Bra Shopping
Or: Why Women Are Crazy
I really don't know why I thought I could buy a bra on my lunch hour. I have this 11% off coupon, and Macy's was having a sale, and so was Victoria's Secret, so why the heck not? The bras I have are all pretty much funny and pointless now. I've been getting by on Target bras, buying a few here and there as they went on clearance, but even those are all overlarge now. And my poor mismatched boobs are so hard to fit!
So I went to Macy's and grabbed the same bra in a variety of sizes. Since I measure myself every week, I have been following the "add three to chest for band, and subtract the difference from the bust" system. (Little did I know that "add three" becomes "add five" when you cross some magic line.) I tried on the 36D: Too big in the cup. Then the 36C: a little snug in the cup and a little big in the band. 34D seemed a reasonable choice: too snug all over! 34DD? Too snug in the band, but you could fit a 4 piece band in the cups with me. 38C fit like an old t-shirt: badly. 36C seemed to come closest to fitting, so I took one and ran. (Dream bra my ass!)
I ran to Vicki's. They had a big clearance on so...The girl measured me up: 38C. No way. But I tried it on, along with a 36D. The 38C at VS actually fit ok, but the center front was up off my chest by a good inch, which means the cups are too small. The 36D seemed a fine fit, although the girl thought it was too tight in the band. They were understaffed, so I dug around in the clearance bin until I found a 36D I liked, and bought it. I'll try it on this evening.
Overall, I'm just confused. I know different makers and different styles are going to fit different. I want to look good while I lose, but I'm not keen on spending an arm and a leg doing it, especially when these bras aren't going to be around too long. I'm wondering if I'll end up with dainty little B cups? I haven't been a B since grade school, but then, I haven't been under 160 since then either.
